Bio
Tai Lipan is an Arizona-based artist, Associate Teaching Professor and Director of Museums and Galleries at Northern Arizona University. Her work explores imagined spaces within monumental landscapes through painting and carved relief, considering geological history, environmental change, and the earth’s capacity to offer refuge.
Recent and forthcoming solo exhibitions include the Holter Museum of Art in Montana; Chandler Gallery and Coconino Center for the Arts in Arizona; Buckham Gallery in Michigan; Thelma Sadoff Center for the Arts and Ballweg Gallery in Wisconsin; and Marian University and Anderson University in Indiana. Her two-person exhibitions include Rogue Gallery in Oregon and Sykes Gallery at Millersville University in Pennsylvania. Her work has been exhibited at The Painting Center, Blue Mountain Gallery, First Street Gallery, Warner Contemporary, Trestle Gallery, and Denise Bibro Gallery in New York; Clara M. Lovett Art Museum and Vision Gallery in Arizona; Bristol Art Museum in Rhode Island; Indianapolis Arts Center; Woman Made Gallery in Chicago; Tucson Museum of Art; UNC Pembroke; and Marshall University.
Lipan holds an MFA in Painting from Western Carolina University and has studied at the Chautauqua Institution School of Art and American University’s Art in Italy Study Abroad Program. Her exhibitions and practice have been featured in Hyperallergic, Visionary Arts Collective, and Artist/Mother Podcast. She is a recipient of an Arizona Artist Opportunity Grant and has participated in artist residencies at Vermont Studio Center, Azule Residency in North Carolina, and Art Bubble at Mount Gretna School of Art in Pennsylvania.
